A cluster of 15,000 shimmering anodised aluminium discs creates the unmissable, futuristic façade of Selfridges Birmingham, a landmark building that has become an icon of the city's regeneration. Designed by architecture firm Future Systems and completed in 2003, this four-storey, £60 million marvel is a leading example of 'blobitecture', its curving, organic form a striking contrast to the historic St. Martin's Church nearby. This bold design, inspired by a sequined Paco Rabanne dress, has garnered numerous architectural awards and played a significant role in transforming Birmingham into a contemporary architectural hub.
